The Cause of Global Warming: CO2 Emissions or Ocean Currents
Courtesy of EarthDive.com comes this story about a prominent weather expert’s views that global warming may have nothing to do with CO2, and may be related to a cycle of ocean currents.
Challenging the climate science community, noted hurricane forecaster William Gray said that global ocean currents, not human-produced carbon dioxide, are responsible for global warming, and the Earth may begin to cool on its own in five to 10 years.
Clearly something is amiss in the weather cycles. Although recent UN sponsored reports have been fairly conclusive in their determination that global warming is a major problem, and is caused by human activities that produce CO2, it wouldn’t be the first time that humankind has been wrong. I know a number of intelligent people who believe the global warming phenomenom is a cyclical thing.
Gray continues on:
Gray said warming and cooling trends cannot go on indefinitely and that he believes temperatures are beginning to level out after a very warm year in 1998.
I hope this is true. I’d love to believe that the planet can self correct. That said, its still my gut feel that our human activities that lead to CO2 production are causing damage to the earth, and that we need to do something to curb global warming.
As a scuba diver, I have noticed a pattern in my log books over the past 13 years that show average ocean temps have gradually risen. I’ve also noted that there was a peak a year or 2 back, and that our summer temps have not been quite as warm as they were in the early 2000’s, and that our winter temperatures are as cold as they’ve ever been.
Things are certainly fluctuating.
