Solomon Airlines launches new plane & services
According to the Solomon Star newspaper, the national carrier of the Solomon Islands, Solomon Airlines, is to unveil a new plane for its international routes today.
The new plane, an Embraer E-170 is smaller but more modern than the previous Boeing 737 planes leased by the airline, and will give Solomon Airlines a much needed boost to have economical daily international services into Honiara. According to the Solomon Airlines website, there will be 6 weekly services between Honiara and Brisbane, 5 of which will be non-stop, and one will be via Santo in Vanuatu. There will also be a weekly service between Honiara and Nadi in Fiji.
The Solomon Islands features some of the best diving in the world, with wonderful diving locations like Uepi in Marovo Lagoon, and Tulagi in Guadalcanal. Gizo and Munda, both impacted by the recent earthquake and tsunami, also feature wonderful diving.
Solomon Airlines is very clearly and cleverly trying to attrack the diving market, as scuba diving is clearly one of the main tourist attractions for the Solomon Airlines. Adding a direct service from Australia to Santo, also a wonderful diving destination, is a great idea.
Consider the Solomon Islands for your next diving holiday, and support an economy that can benefit enormously from eco-tourism.
