Earthquake a tsunami hits Solomon Islands
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the Solomon Islands today, sparking a tsunami warning that extended as far as the Tropical North Coast of Queensland, in Australia. According to the SMH:
A massive earthquake struck the Solomon Islands today, sending a tsunami crashing into the country’s west coast and prompting region-wide disaster warnings, officials said.
The epicentre of the quake was 45km from Gizo, a popular dive destination in the Solomon’s western province. Reports have confirmed that waves “several metres high” have hit Gizo.
